With high hopes for such a well-known name in our industry, we lumbered through our review of this particular cigar. While delivering an outstanding overall flavor, the construction of this cigar was a bit of a disappointment. All three Gran Reserva cigars reviewed were plagued with the exact same issue which isn’t surprising because they all came from the same box. They all had soft spots in the filler, (which caused major burn issues and two of the three cigars even went out), holes opening up in the wrapper, and very uneven burn patterns. These factors really brought down the overall score. Because of construction flaws, the Gran Reserva had no burn consistency at all. Due to soft spots in the filler, the cigars kept going out and had to be re-lit. The draw on the Gran Reserva was good as it produced a multitude of creamy white smoke with little to no effort. The Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva somewhat redeemed itself  by providing a pleasant, likable sweetness paired with a little spice on the front of the draw. The draw produced a good volume of creamy smoke and a tender mouth feel. This cigar tasted like the classic Dominican that Fuente is known to deliver. Having smoked many Fuente sticks over the years, it was surprising to see so many issues with both construction and burn quality. It could have been shipping damage or other mitigating factors but the issues mentioned above really brought down the score. The flavor was a well-balanced blend of sweet notes paired with light spice and earth. The Gran Reserva would be a good stick to have on stand by for a golf outing or as filler for your humidor.
