Coming in for it’s second edition, this week we break down the Rocky Patel A.LR. aka “Another Lame Rocky”. But is it? It actually means “Aged, Limited, Rare”, and although the adjectives used to make up the acronym are disconnectedly redundant, we were excited to try something that we would breeze past wandering through the humidor.

Construction - This cigar would be considered top shelf for Rocky Patel and thus an expectation for the use of the highest quality tobacco and superb production. The skeptic in us said this wouldn’t be achieved, but it's nice to be proven wrong every once in a while. This cigar was top notch, not to mention the dope slightly rose gold band. It’s just icing on the cake.

Burn - The burn on both samples was also impeccable. The draw was easy going, and the consistency was one of the best we have seen in a long while. So far, if nothing else, this cigar is enjoyable to smoke without flavor being considered at all. This is turning out to be an iteration of an R.P. that we have never seen before.

Flavor - We like that this cigar imparts little to no pepper or spice up front. What a relief! It starts off bitter and bright, and oh by the way… It stays bitter and bright. In a rare instance you will get a subtle creaminess but it fades quickly back into.. You guessed it. Bitter and bright. Don’t hear what we aren't saying though! The bitterness and that zest is desirable and satisfying, we were just looking for a bit more complexity and balance, especially when you consider the name. We were just hoping the A.L.R. Rocky would be a little rockier than this.

Highly recommended.

Sometimes knowing the beginning and the end isn’t bad. If you like that somewhat astringent yet appetizing flavor profile, then this one's for you! Just keep in mind that this cigar comes at a premium, setting you back roughly $13.00. Even though our unanimous decision is this is a good cigar, the lack of complexity and its somewhat static disposition, we feel make the price a bit of an overreach. Plus, who wants to pay $13.00 for an R.P.?!
